About the episode
ESC 23 — Dr Jesus Alvarez-Garcia (Ramon and Cajal University Hospital, ES) considers the use of ReDS technology in patients with acute heart failure (ReDS-SAFE HF) (NCT04305717) in this short interview.
The ReDS-SAFE HF study (Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai) aimed to test the remote dielectric sensing (ReDS) system, a novel electromagnetic technology that can noninvasively quantify changes in lung fluid concentration. This study aims to test if a ReDS-guided strategy during heart failure admission is superior to standard care during a 1-month follow-up. 240 patients with acutely decompensated heart failure will be randomized to receive either standard of care strategy, or ReDS-guided strategy.
Results suggest that the ReDS-guided strategy significantly reduced the primary outcome with a hazard ratio of 0.094. Quality of life was also shown to be improved in the ReDS-guided arm.
Questions:
- What is the importance of this study?
- Please outline the ReDS system.
- What was the study design, eligibility criteria and outcome measures?
- What are the late-breaking findings?
- How should these findings impact practice?
- What are the foreseeable challenges in incorporating this into patient care?
- What are the next steps?
Recorded on-site at ESC Congress 2023, Amsterdam.
