About the episode
ESC 23 — In this concise interview, Dr Yugo Yamashita (Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine, JP) reveals the findings of the ONCO DVT Study (NCT03895502).
The ONCO DVT study (Takeshi Morimoto) aimed to determine the ideal duration of anticoagulation therapy with the direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) edoxaban for the treatment of isolated distal deep vein thrombosis (IDDVT) in patients with active cancer. 605 participants were enrolled in the trial, and were randomly assigned to receive either edoxaban for 3 months (short DOAC group) or edoxaban for 12 months (long DOAC group).
The study showed that edoxaban treatment for 12 months was superior to three months in cancer patients with isolated distal FVT in respect to the composite outcome of symptomatic recurrent venous thromboembolism or VTE-related death.
