Dinner symposium presentation – Advancements in Atrial Fibrillation Detection and Treatment

The Advancements in Atrial Fibrillation Detection and Treatment symposium brings together leading experts in the field of cardiology and electrophysiology to discuss topics including:

  • Atrial fibrillation (AF) detection tools and associated evidence: selecting the right device for each patient
  • How the latest AF detection devices can impact clinical practice
  • AF detection and treatment guidelines
  • The risk-benefit threshold of AF ablation compared to antiarrhythmic drug therapy
  • Who should be referred for an AF ablation
  • AF progression and the associated clinical impact
  • The benefits associated with early AF treatment and first-line ablation

Faculty: Prof. Thorsten Lewalter, Prof. Helmut Pürerfellner, and Prof. Carina Blomström-Lundqvist

The objective of this video series is to have an expert panel provide guidance on:

  • AF detection tools that are best suited for different patients and how they can impact clinical practice
  • AF detection and treatment guidelines
  • Who should be referred for an AF ablation and what outcomes they can expect?
  • AF progression and the benefits of early treatment

Dr Carina Blomström-Lundqvist is Professor of Cardiology at the Department of Cardiology, Institution of Medical Science, Uppsala, Sweden. At Uppsala, Dr Blomström-Lundqvist has become research leader for the arrhythmia unit, mainly focusing on research related to atrial fibrillation (AF). In collaboration with the Department of Thoracic Surgery, procedures for Maze surgery followed by thoracoscopy epicardial atrial fibrillation ablations were initiated.

Professor Helmut Pürerfellner is the Head of Department of Clinical Electrophysiology at Elisabethinen Hospital in Linz, Austria. He is also currently the Treasurer for the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) and has been the Co-chair of the Scientific Program Committee for EHRA since 2015.

Professor Thorsten Lewalter is the Head of the Cardiologist Department at Int. Klinikum München Süd in Munich, Germany. He is a co-editor of numerous professional journals and textbooks and since 2008, he has been teaching as an associate professor at the University Hospital Bonn.

The presentation recordings primarily target cardiologists. General practitioners, allied health professionals, and electrophysiologists may also benefit from this content.
