Biography

Dr Martin B. Leon is a prominent figure in the field of interventional cardiovascular medicine, contributing significantly to the industry. Currently serving as the Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, he has held key roles such as the Director of the Columbia Interventional Cardiovascular Care and, until July 2023, Director of the Cardiovascular Data Science Center for the Division of Cardiology.

In his capacity as an interventional cardiologist at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, Dr Leon actively engages in clinical practice. He is also recognized as the Founder and Chairman Emeritus of the Cardiovascular Research Foundation. Dr Leon has been involved in over 50 clinical trials, including notable studies such as STRESS, STARS, Gamma-one, SIRIUS, ENDEAVOR, and the impactful PARTNER trial, focusing on transcatheter valve therapy for aortic stenosis.

Beyond clinical trials, Dr Leon has co-authored an extensive body of work, comprising over 1550 publications, and has conducted over 10,000 interventional procedures. Acknowledged as a thought-leader in interventional cardiovascular device and drug therapies, he is the Director and Founder of Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT), a globally recognized conference shaping the landscape of interventional cardiovascular medicine.

Dr Leon's contributions have been acknowledged with various international career achievement awards, and he holds an honorary degree from the University of Athens. His educational impact extends to directing over 100 programs on interventional cardiology. Throughout his career, he has served in key positions, including Director of Cardiovascular Research and Education at Lenox Hill Heart and Vascular Institute, Director of Clinical Research at the Washington Cardiology Center, and Clinical Professor of Medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center.

His early career involved instrumental roles at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD, where he played a key role in founding the Washington Cardiology Center and the Cardiology Research Foundation in Washington, DC. Dr Leon completed his Cardiology fellowship at Yale-New Haven Hospital, following his medical education at the Yale School of Medicine, and pursued an internship and residency in internal medicine at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
